The movie Spare Parts

Spare Parts is the story about four Hispanic high school students form a robotics club. With no experience, 800 bucks, used car parts and a dream, this rag tag team goes up against the country’s reigning robotics champion, MIT. The movie was released 5th of June 2015. We watched the movie in class, but I was sick so I watched it at home. The movie won an award for both best director, Sean McNamara, and best actor, George Lopez.

In the movie we meet Oscar Vazquez, a Hispanic teenager who tries to join the U.S army. Because of his illegal immigration he does not have the papers needed to enlist. With a constant fear of being deported back to Mexico he joins an underwater robotics club in order to get the army’s attention although he quickly figures out that this is no task to be taken lightly. He searches for people in his school that may want to be a part of his project until he finds three boys that all have different skills to help out. This movie really shows what good teamwork is, and that you can’t always do everything yourself.

What this movie also reminds us of is how important robotics is in our everyday life. Even though they make an underwater robot, there are plenty of robots out there who does very important jobs. Robots like the Mars Rover and even normal prosthetics make a huge difference in our lives. The Mars Rover recently discovered water on Mars and prosthetic limbs help people all around the world.prosthetics
